Heron Painting

A painting. Just a painting. I modeled it off of a photo I saw (painting on the left, photo on the right). I really liked the heron silhouette in the photograph, so I decided to try and replicate it with some watercolors. Not bad, eh?

Happy birding!

  • Not bad at all Andrea. I think I would have shortened the post and lengthened the bird's neck though.
    well done anyway.

  • Thank you! I agree, the post should be shorter, but I had a lot of extra space on the paper and lots of black paint left. ;-)

I added the original photo, too. The photo was done by Arthur Morris, an amazing bird photographer. I really admire his work.

    Happy birding,

  • Wow, that's a good photo.
I still like your painting though.

lol and I love your "hunting with lego rednecks" video.
That's my favorite joke. It has to be the funniest joke ever.

  • Hey Andrea,

The answer to my quiz is as follows:
you were right in guessing rosy-finches.
    This one is a Black.
    What's the center bird though?

The pics were taken in the Beartooth mountains near the top of beartooth pass in SE Montana. it is beautiful up there. the top of the pass is at around 10,600 feet so it's pretty high up. the air is crystal clear too.

  • Am Pipit is correct!
I also saw a Sprague's on that trip but that was at the Badlands.
I wish the pics I took could better show the scenery at the top of the pass. It was beautiful up there. I could have stayed for the rest of the summer.

  • Very cool! Montana does look beautiful. Never been there before. It seems like it has some great birds! Both the Pipit and the Rosy-Finch would be lifers for me. :-)

    Happy birding!
